The Fertig 2.0 is our second generation of the Fertig Plate Carrier. The Fertig is a healthy mix of overt carrying capacity while remaining as comfortable as a slim plate carrier. The 2.0 comes with some upgrades based on customer feedback from the first generation.

Militech Black Label Level IV Silicon Carbide (SiC) Multi-curve Edge-to-Edge Plates

A 6.5lb level IV (4) plate is no easy accomplishment. Typically, lightweight level IV armor is expensive and must use high-end ceramics like Boron Carbide. Alternatively, you can reduce the core strike-face to achieve weight loss. However, by using Militech's access to high-quality Silicon Carbide, we present their edge-to-edge Black Label Level IV 6.5lb armor.

Why is it called the "Fertig?"

This carrier is named the Fertig Carrier to commemorate and remember the American, guerilla warfare hero, Wendell Fertig. He is truly an Uprise inspiration.

"Welcome the Indomitable Patriot Who Have Lessened Human Suffering on Mindanao"

Fertig was an Army Reserve captain stationed on the Philippine Island, Corregidor. During his time there, the US Army surrendered to the Japanese. When asked by another fleeing officer, what they were going to do, Fertig said "Any damn thing but surrender." He fled to the Island of Mindanao, surviving multiple capture attempts and plane crashes. Using his prior knowledge of the Filipino people, he organized them into a guerrilla army and organized the civilian population. The small guerrilla force didn't have many supplies, so they operated in small hit-and-run tactics.

Fertig was an engineer and organized a team to create a radio with scrap pieces. He contacted US forces with it, as well as let his wife know that he was well. This gave the US opportunities to supply the small force with supplies transported via submarine. This also gave Fertig the opportunity to give insanely accurate intel to the US. The Japanese attempted to kill Fertig multiple times but he simply would have his forces retreat. Then, after waiting for the Japanese to disperse, he'd counterattack the Japanese with local superiority.

He used his engineering knowledge to create a small guerilla navy to destroy Japanese supply ships, as well as protect their own supply submarine. His engineering knowledge was also put to use as he helped prepare for the US invasion of the island, by building and hiding a 7,000-foot airstrip. Using their bootleg radios, the guerillas gave the US such accurate knowledge of enemy ship positions that the US didn't bother sending reconnaissance planes. The Japanese were convinced that the Americans had created a "Fuel/Ammunition guided bomb." It was actually Fertig's forces super-accurate intel.

General MacArthur ordered Fertig to stop fighting the Japanese and to only gather intelligence. They assumed that because the US could not stop the Japanese, the guerillas couldn't either. Macarthur did not want Fertig's operation to be a waste of resources. Fertig could not follow these orders, as he would not be able to recruit new fighters if they didn't give the Filipino people an outlet for violent revenge against Japanese atrocities.

In the Spring of 1943, the Japanese launched a major offensive on Fertig. Fertig simply hid his forces until the Japanese became complacent. As the Japanese reduced their troops from units to squads Fertig's forces reorganized and created massive casualties on the now smaller Japanese forces.

Post-war, during the Korean war, he worked at the Pentagon in the psychological warfare unit. He helped establish the Army's Psychological Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, which later became the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.

Wendell Fertig is considered one of the three founding fathers of the US Army Special Forces.
